Looking for a fun evening activity to do with your best bud? Checking out a dog-friendly brewery is a great way to get out of the house, try some tasty libations and make new friends. And the good news is that with the multitude of craft breweries around the U.S., you can easily find some dog-friendly ones that are downright obsessed (in a good way) with their canine customers.
From offering dog-amenities like treats and merchandise to hosting fun events like Yappy Hours and benefits for local animal charities, these best dog-friendly breweries do much more than serve up delicious drafts—though they do that, too. In fact, the craft beer is just about as varied as the many kinds of dogs you’ll find happily hanging out at these bars, from lagers and belgians to IPAs and stouts. So kick back with a cold one and your best friends—human and canine alike—at these 10 best dog-friendly breweries.
1Pinellas Ale Works
Hours: Monday–Thursday: 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. | Friday & Saturday: 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. | Sunday: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Dog policies: All well-behaved dogs are welcome in the outdoor beer garden and taproom; must be leashed at all times.
Affectionately known as PAW by the locals, Pinellas Ale Works caters to pups and their parents. You’ll find dog water bowls all around and dog treats on every table. Along with their cute paw print logo, many of the craft brews sport fun dog-inspired names like their Pomeranian Porter and Vanilla Lab Latte.
Stop by on Thursday to take part in their weekly Yappy Hour, where they host a different animal-focused charity. PAW donates a portion of beer sales to these charities, so you can feel good about ordering a second round. Be sure to check out their great selection of branded merchandise for both you and your dog, too.
When it comes to beer, PAW has a wide selection with up to 40 different beers on tap. Puppy Love, a New England Style IPA, is one of their most popular beers, while their award-winning Milk Bone Sweet Stout and Puppy Breath Hazy IPA are other fan favorites.
2Armored Cow Brewing Co.
Hours: Monday: Closed | Tuesday–Wednesday: 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. | Thursday: 2 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. | Friday–Saturday: 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. | Sunday: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Dog policies: All well-behaved dogs are welcome, inside and outside; must be leashed at all times.
When you visit Armored Cow Brewing, you might be greeted by the brewery dog, Remi, who considers it his job to make sure everyone feels welcome at this craft brewery. In addition to water bowls all around for your best friend to quench their thirst, they also have dog treats for sale behind the bar.
The brewery partners with local animal rescues for quarterly pop-ups and hosts pet-friendly holiday-themed events. And thanks to the doting staff who love getting to know the canine regulars by name, your dog will feel like brewery royalty—just like Remi.
For their human customers, Armored Cow uniquely offers 100% gluten-free beer—a big deal if you love beer but have a gluten sensitivity or allergy. And you can’t go wrong with any of their other beers, either. If they have any seasonal craft brews on tap when you visit, be sure to give them a try—these offerings are often some of their best sellers.
3Optimism Brewing Company
Hours: Monday–Thursday: 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. | Friday–Saturday: 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.| Sunday: 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Dog policies: All well-behaved dogs are welcome at the brewery; must be leashed at all times.
Optimism Brewing Company is all about happy pooches and their people. They welcome dogs inside the brewery, making it a great spot for you and your pup on a rainy Seattle day.
The bar staff keeps dog treats at the counter, and you’ll find plenty of water bowls around the space too. Bonus: The concrete floors are heated, giving your dog a cozy spot to snuggle up in the colder months. And if your pup has an accident, just let the staff know. They keep disposable bags and enzyme cleaners at the ready.
Curious about what Optimism brews to sample? Their B.E. Juicy Hazy IPA is a top seller and perennial favorite. Or grab a flight of several different beers to taste—the brewery usually has around 20 beers on tap, with a little something for everyone.
4Lakes and Legends Brewing Company
Hours: Monday–Thursday: 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. | Friday: 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. | Saturday: 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. | Sunday: 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Dog policies: All well-behaved dogs are welcome inside the taproom; must be leashed at all times.
At Lakes and Legends Brewing Company, your dog will be treated like their favorite customer (don’t get too jealous). Along with dog water bowls, they also have treats behind the bar and merch specifically for dogs including leashes, collars and collapsible dog dishes.
Each month, Lakes and Legends hosts dog adoption events with Healing Hearts Rescue as well as stand-alone pet-friendly events with other local shelters. Be sure to check out their calendar for other dog-centric events that they host throughout the year.
What to drink? Try the popular St. Gail Raspberry Honey Ale, a tart, spritzy brew that’s popular among both seasoned beer drinkers and folks who might not typically enjoy beer. Another favorite is the Minnesota Cream Ale which uses wheat from local brewers’ supply company Vertical Malt. In fact, the craft brewery aims to brew beers that can incorporate local partners whenever possible.
5Laughing Dog Brewery
Hours: Monday–Sunday: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Dog policies: All well-behaved dogs are welcome inside the taproom; must be leashed at all times.
Named after Benny, the founders’ yellow Lab who had a great smile, Laughing Dog Brewery has made it their mission from Day One to make their beer and brewery as lovable as their furry best friend. You and your pup will be welcome year-round—check out their dog-friendly patio in the warmer months or step inside the taproom in the winter for a pint after a day out playing in the snow.
Your dog will adore their drool-worthy doggy menu which has tasty treats like beef sticks, bones and doggy ice cream. They also sell collars, leashes, dog bowls and even a chew toy shaped like a beer can.
When it comes to their beers, the brewery is best known for their regular lineup which includes their flagship Mountain Hound Huckleberry Cream Ale. Other fan favorites featuring fun canine-inspired monikers include the Unleashed Amber, Rocket Dog Rye IPA and Alpha Dog Imperial IPA.
6Tidal Creek Brewhouse
Hours: Monday–Thursday: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m | Friday & Saturday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. | Sunday: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Dog policies: All well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome on the patios, beer garden and brewhouse; dogs are welcome to play off leash in the K9 Korral.
Though you’ll adore the fabulous outdoor patios, beer garden and brewhouse at Tidal Creek (not to mention the stellar food and drink), your pup’s new favorite spot might just be their K9 Korral. This off-leash area has a fire hydrant, tire obstacle course, rope jump, selfie station, poop bags, sail shades and seating—so you can enjoy your beverage while your dog plays.
If that’s not enough to get their tail wagging, Tidal Creek also sells locally made dog treats, baked using the spent grains from their brewing process. And then there’s the pup menu, featuring Pup Cups and Argus’s Malt Licker (a treat made with the brewery’s malt). They also sell cute collars, leashes and dog bowls.
While your dog is romping in the K9 Korral, try the Breezy Blonde Ale, a favorite easy-drinker, or the Harmonic Hefeweizen, which has won several awards. Not super into beer? Tidal Creek is also a coffee roaster and serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. This family-friendly spot hosts fun events all week long, including crafts, live music, trivia, bingo and corn hole.
Hours: Monday–Saturday: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. | Sunday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Dog policies: All well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed in all outdoor spaces, including the beer garden and deck. Off-leash dogs are welcome in the dog park. Dogs are not allowed in the brewery and taproom.
Beerburg Brewing enthusiastically welcomes furry friends and goes the extra mile to give them a space to call their own with their off-leash dog park. This fenced-in, double-gated park gives your dog a spot to stretch their legs and play with new friends. They can also join you in the spacious outdoor beer garden.
Beerburg works with local animal rescues to offer pet adoption days and fundraising opportunities—stemming from the owners’ passion for helping dogs in need. They also host dog yoga on their deck featuring adoptable dogs (be ready to come home more flexible and possibly with a new family member) and dog-themed holiday events throughout the year.
Known for producing delicious traditionally brewed beers, Beerburg also creates a signature Wildcraft series of brews. This series features ingredients foraged from around Texas, utilizing water from Beerburg’s onsite well, yeast harvested at Beerburg and Texas malts, for a local flavor you won’t find anywhere else.
Hours: Monday: Closed | Tuesday–Thursday: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. | Friday: 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. | Saturday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. | Sunday: Closed
Dog policies: All well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed on the patio; dogs are not allowed inside. Off-leash dogs are allowed in the Lois Dog Park (be sure to sign the waiver first).
Looking for space to let your dog roam? Kinship Brewing has the perfect spot to give your pup some off-leash exercise: its onsite Lois Dog Park. Once they’re done burning off their energy, the brewpub has a spacious dog-friendly outdoor patio where they can relax with their new furry buds while you grab a pint and bite to eat. The comfy outdoor seating area has picnic tables, lounge chairs and two big screen TVs to catch the latest sports action.
Grab a pitcher of the traditional Kinship Gold Kolsch or sample several different types of lagers with a flight. Kinship also has a selection of ciders, wine, seltzer and cocktails if you aren’t in the mood for beer. Either way, you can find the perfect pairing to go with their tasty taproom fare.
9Switchback Brewing Co.
Hours: Monday: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Tuesday: Closed | Wednesday & Thursday: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Friday & Saturday: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. | Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Dog policies: All well-behaved dogs are welcome at the brewery; must be leashed at all times; dogs are not allowed on the production floor.
When you first arrive at Switchback Brewing, the brewmaster’s dog, Dyson, will likely ask you for fetch or pets. This pup-welcoming attitude translates to their dog-friendly taproom where customers are able to enjoy a beer with their four-legged friends by their side.
The brewery offers water bowls and treats behind the bar for well-behaved visitor dogs. You can gear up your pup with several dog-themed items from their store including Cycle Dog leashes, travel bowls and collars which are made from recycled bike inner tubes. The brewery also hosts annual dog parties to benefit the Humane Society of Chittenden County.
As for their beer, you can’t go wrong with a glass of the brewery’s flagship beer, the Switchback Ale, which is Vermont’s best-selling craft beer. For something unique, sample one of their series of Flynn on Fire Smoked Beers or order up one of the many ales, lagers or IPAs they have on rotation.
10Lagunitas Petaluma TapRoom & Beer Sanctuary
Hours: Wednesday–Sunday: 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Dog policies: All well-behaved dogs are welcome at the taproom; must be leashed at all times.
At the Lagunitas dog-friendly taproom, there’s a seat at the bar for everyone, including pups! Dogs aren’t just on their brew labels—four-legged friends are a part of Lagunitas’ culture. You’ll find a water dish and treat at the bar for every pup, and you can order up a bowl of Doggone Beef Patty, Beggin’ Bacon or Grilled Chicken off their dog menu. Plus, you can expect the staff to treat your dog like family.
Head to the Lagunitas shop to amp up your pup’s wardrobe with items like dog collars, dog clothes and dog toys that look like their fan-favorite beers—and even tennis balls and handkerchiefs whose proceeds go directly to the brewery’s nonprofit partner, Best Friends Animal Society. The taproom also hosts microchipping and vaccine clinics along with other pet-related events throughout the year.
To quench your thirst, the taproom serves up the most popular Lagunitas favorites, like their flagship IPA, alongside tons of one-off brews you can’t find anywhere else. The brewery also offers new and innovative brews created at their innovation lab, the Disorderly House of Brewing—they are highly limited, exclusively on draft and guaranteed deliciousness.
